(Based on our review of 100s of landing pages & real results from our $170 million Shopify store.)
Hey! I’m Ezra Firestone, the CEO of Zipify Apps.
I’m also the Founder of $175 million Shopify store and Shopify’s first Certified Commerce Coach.
I don’t say this to brag—I say it so you have proof that these strategies actually work.
This list of best practices will help you fix 8 of the biggest mistakes merchants make on their sales pages, so you can get more sales.
Today over 18,000 ecommerce stores are using Zipify’s apps to grow their businesses.
In fact, Zipify has made over $560 million in additional revenue for sellers just like you. As Zipify’s CEO (and the CEO of my own 8 & 9-figure stores), I’ve helped thousands of retailers:
Increase Sales
Get New Customers
Optimize Their Website
And I identified 8 simple fixes you can make to your sale pages to improve their performance and make more sales.
So without further ado…
First impressions are critical in ecommerce.
In fact, you may only get a few seconds from the time someone lands on your page until they decide to stay or leave... So when you’re writing your product pages, make sure the customer can understand your offer as quickly as possible.
Don’t make visitors scroll down below the buy box to figure out what your product does (because the odds are they won’t).
Tell your customers the main benefit of owning your product as soon as they land on the page.
Focus on your visitors taking one action per page.
If it’s a product page, then focus on them buying one single product. If it’s a lead generation page, then the only action you should be asking them to take is to opt-in.
Don’t be afraid of losing the sale because you didn’t show them your entire product catalogue — that’s what retargeting ads are for.

The product page is the most important page on your website, and your buy box is the most important element on your product page.
So if you’re not an experienced ecommerce marketer with loads of conversion rate optimization experience, then don’t try to create your own buy box.
We spent years refining and perfecting the dynamic buy box on our product page templates, and we’ve determined there are 4 goals you need to achieve to be effective here:
Obviously, the primary goal of your buy box is to get the prospect to buy your product. Here are 4 things you can do to make someone more likely to buy:
SIMPLIFY THE SALES PITCH: In most cases this means you’re succinctly restating the primary benefits of your product.
CROSS-SELL AND/OR UPSELL: Give customers the option to add an additional product or accessory, upgrade to a bigger size or even a bundle.
OVERCOME FINAL OBJECTIONS: One really common strategy is to use this space to emphasize your money-back guarantee.
GET THE “ADD TO CART” CLICK!: Maximize your chances of getting the sale by choosing a button color that stands out on the page.
Unless you’re a professional website designer, you shouldn’t gamble on designing your own landing page from scratch.
Above are just a few of the templates we use on our $170 million Shopify store for sales pages, promotions and homepages that work right out of the box.
They’re all available when you sign up for a 14-day free trial to Zipify Pages, our landing page and sales funnel builder for Shopify. Use these templates as guides to see what elements you need on your pages and how much copy and creative to start with.
You don’t need pages and pages of sales copy to have a winning sales page.
Afterall, sales copy is just one of the tools we have to help sell our products — product photos, sales videos, and customer testimonials are some others, and they can work even better.
So if you can demonstrate the ownership benefits of your product in one paragraph instead of three, do that instead.
Short and punchy paragraphs are easier to read than large blocks of text.
This is similar to tip #5, “Keep Your Sales Copy Concise,” but it goes beyond the function of the words to the form they take on the page.
As a simple rule, limit paragraphs to 3 sentences or less and choose fonts and font sizes that give your copy more definition.
Don't make your prospect squint to read your product description!
We recommend at least 8 different “looks” for your buy box and product page.
And please do not Photoshop your product onto a stock image: people want to see your product in action, and they want to see real people using it.
Invite a friend over and take pictures with your phone, or better yet ask your fans! Customer photos are a powerful form of social proof, and you can use them throughout your marketing.
Merchants use a lot of fancy tricks and popups on their Shopify stores, but these short-term boosts can actually stall your growth in the long run.
If you go out guns-a-blazing with every feature enabled on your page, it’s difficult to tell how effective (or ineffective) your page actually is. It’s better to start with the most simple version of your page and determine your baseline performance first.
Then, once you get version 1 working, you can add some complexity and split test your pages to see which one wins.
Whether you’re new to ecommerce or a seasoned pro, this list of best practices for your sales pages will help you fix 8 of the biggest mistakes marketers make when selling online.
